About the conference
The region from the Balkans to Central Asia boasts rich and diverse renewable energy resources. But is this opportunity being seized?
The Atlantic Council’s Turkey program—in partnership with the Global Energy Center—is hosting the Regional Conference on Clean and Secure Energy in Istanbul to answer that question and to map out next steps in advancing clean energy, enhancing energy security, and driving decarbonization in the energy system.
The third iteration of the conference will gather ministers, high-level energy officials, private-sector leaders, and experts from across the region as well as from across the transatlantic alliance. With the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP29) taking place a month later, this conference will explore new and emerging technologies and international cooperation in the energy sector. Discussions at the conference will also broaden beyond energy to include regional projects including the Middle Corridor and Development Road, as well as regional security and geopolitical issues from Ukraine to the Middle East and the US elections.

Previous conferences
On October 10-11, 2022, the Atlantic Council in Turkey hosted the 2022 Regional Clean Energy Conference together with the Global Energy Center and in partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The conference gathered ministers, deputy ministers and high level representatives from nine regional countries plus the United States and European Union and a total of 41 speakers from 22 countries to discuss the clean energy transition ahead of COP27. On the sidelines of the conference we organized a closed-door ministerial gathering regional ministers, deputy ministers and US policymakers.
The conference was the second cooperation between the Atlantic Council in Turkey and EBRD following a successful joint conference in February 2020 on regional renewable energy outlook.
