Ahmed Aboudouh was a nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative and Middle East Programs. He is an associate fellow at the Chatham House in London. Additionally, Ahmed heads the China Studies Unit at EPC. He is a foreign affairs, security, and geopolitics specialist focusing on China’s rising influence in the MENA region, US-China competition, and its worldwide implications.
Previously, Ahmed was a consultant editor at The Independent, where he played a crucial role in building the newspaper’s partnerships with the most influential Middle East publishing houses and contributed to the newspaper’s overseas coverage.
Ahmed covered the 2011 Tahrir Square uprising as a correspondent based in Cairo. As a senior editor, he later oversaw the coverage of conflicts in Libya, Yemen, and Syria and wrote extensively about the rise of Isis in Iraq, Syria and the Sinai Peninsula.
Ahmed is a PhD candidate at King’s College’s Defence Studies Department, where his thesis focuses on the US-China competition in the Global South. He also holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. Ahmed is fluent in English and Arabic and speaks little Mandarin.
