Anca Agachi is a nonresident fellow with Transatlantic Security Initiative in the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security. She currently serves as a defense policy analyst at the RAND Corporation, where she focuses on international security and defense issues. Previously, she served as associate director with the Transatlantic Security Initiative where her work centered around transatlantic security, conflict and stabilization, emerging threats, and foresight.

Agachi is driven by a desire to understand the long-term transformation of conflict and security. Previously, she worked for the European Union’s European Defence Agency on defense capability development projects in the information security and space domains and served as a United Nations youth representative for Romania, focusing extensively on the UN 2030 Agenda and sustainable development goals. Her analysis has appeared in Politico, Just Security, Defense One, and the National Interest, among others.

Agachi holds a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, with a concentration in international security policy and a double specialization in conflict resolution and Africa. She holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations and European studies from the University of Bucharest, as well as a bachelor’s degree in international business and economics from the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. Agachi is originally from Bucharest, Romania.
