Please join the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center for a public, virtual discussion on “The path ahead for regional integration initiatives in the Western Balkans.” This event will take place virtually on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. CET via Zoom.
In November, the prime ministers of the six Western Balkan countries convened in Berlin and signed three agreements under the auspices of the revitalized Berlin Process. Although the summit was seen as a meaningful step in rebuilding momentum for regional economic cooperation and integration, the questions of how to build on the summit’s momentum continue to linger. Relations between Kosovo and Serbia continue to suffer from the heated rhetoric, Montenegro is faced with a domestic political crisis, and the situation following the elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina are worrying signs for the success of regional integration initiatives.
The year ahead offers a new set of opportunities to demonstrate the transatlantic commitment to the region. What is the state of regional integration in the Western Balkans? What are the next steps in the Berlin Process? How can the transatlantic partners work together to support the region on its Euro-Atlantic path?
Damir Marusic, Senior Fellow of the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center, moderates a conversation with Mr. Manuel Sarrazin, German Federal Government Special Representative for the Countries of the Western Balkans, H.E. Tanja Miščević, Minister of European Integration of the Republic of Serbia, and Mr. Ditmir Bushati, former Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, on the path ahead for the Western Balkans and the key trendlines for transatlantic engagement.
This discussion will be broadcast on YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook. To receive the event information, please register using the button above. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with information on how to watch the event.
