Eastern EuropeOleksandra Matviichuk is a 2024 Millennium fellow, a Ukrainian human rights lawyer, and head of the Center for Civil Liberties. She has experience creating horizontal structures for mass involvement in human-rights activity, as well as ten years of experience documenting war crimes. Matviichuk has written several reports for the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the European Union, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the International Criminal Court. In 2016, she received the OSCE Democracy Defender Award for “Exclusive Contribution to Promoting Democracy and Human Rights.” In 2017, she became the first woman to participate in the Ukrainian Emerging Leaders Program of Stanford University. In 2022, Matviichuk was awarded the Right Livelihood Award and recognized as one of the twenty-five most influential women in the world by the Financial Times. In that same year, the Center for Civil Liberties received the Nobel Peace Prize.
